SPECIAL NOTE


Special supplements are found in the back of this rule book which reflect the peculiar or special nature of items found on the 1964 ½ and early 1965 Mustangs (carry-over items: and the early 1965-70 Shelby Mustangs. Please refer to these supplements when judging Concours 1964 ½ and early 1965 and 1965-70 Shelby's.

MISCELLANEOUS

In all Concours classes, for each particular year model, all accessories must be Ford factory accessories or
accessories advertised in the Ford accessory books. The only exceptions will be with original dealer documentation.

As defined in these rules, Natural Finish may include any of the following:
bare metal, phosphate and oil, zinc dichromate (gold), zinc (silver), clean cadmium (silver), yellow cadmium (gold), heat treated steel (dark gray/black).

Special devices for the handicapped will be overlooked.

Concours is defined as factory original as ordered from Ford Motor Company

Any special item required by state law (inspection stickers) or club stickers, parking decals, etc. will be overlooked. (No school decals, etc.) Owner must show evidence of required addition or modification to car.

1. ENGINE COMPARTMENT

A. Battery: Ford Battery is necessary. Must be mounted in original position with appropriate carrier and attaching parts including heat shields. 1964 ½-71 - Autolite battery required

be as follows; 1967-71 Autolite with black or orange boots. All must be properly routed with correct attaching brackets. Note: Not all Autolite wires are printed with Autolite. Some may only be on the boot.)

I. Bolts: Fender bolts must be of original color and style as follows: 1968-70 clear cadmium

2. FUEL SYSTEMS

A. Lines: Rigid lines must be of original configuration and finish in the original location with proper attaching parts. Flex lines must be black and have original Factory markings. Fuel line routing either front or rear of distributor.

3. COOLING SYSTEM

A. Radiator: Must be Ford-type painted semi-gloss black and be of proper core thickness. Must have black rubber overflow tube. Radiator hoses must be of molded rubber hose of original size and configuration and marked as follows 1968-71 FoMoCo or Autolite Pedestal clamps used on 1964 ½-68 1967-up with air condition, extra coolant or Big Blocks must have fan shroud on radiator.

B. Radiator Caps: 1967-71 Autolite

C. Heater Hoses Must be black ribbed style with white, red or yellow stripe to pump side (one or both hoses). 1967-71 may be orange or yellow stripe with Autolite logo. Pedestal clamps only.

4. MAJOR ENGINE COMPONENTS

A. Block, cylinder heads intake manifold and attached components: Must be the proper engine and cylinder heads as designated by the patent plate. Engine component colors are as follows: 1966-1982: All engines are dark Ford blue entirely.

B. Following Components must be painted same color as engine block: Intake manifold, thermostat housing, water pump assembly, timing cover, oil pan, oil dipstick tube, oil dipstick handle.

C. Following Components must be painted black: Fan, fan pulley, crankshaft pulley, generator bracket, alternator bracket, air conditioner brackets (1964 ½ - 70 only), York and Tecumseh air conditioner compressors.

D. Following Components may be black or natural: Engine mount brackets, harmonic balancer, power steering brackets (for 1967-70 cars only), P/S pump and bracket (except aluminum. Carburetor spacer plate is color of block or natural.

E. Follow Components are as noted: P/S pump for 1967-70 cars is black or teal blue.

F. Following Components are natural: bellhousing, accelerator linkage, exhaust manifolds, distributor, distributor hold-down bracket, manifold locks, alternator and generator spacers, and power steering spacer where used. Natural paint may
be used so long as the part retains its original appearance.

G. Aluminum ID Tag: Must be visible on intake manifold (1964 ½-72). 1968 Shelby GT 500's and Cobra Jet Shelby's must have ID tag.

H. Mustang Cobra Dress-UP Kits: If used, dress-up kits must be as follows: 1964 ½-66 kits consist of Cobra open-letter valve covers with chrome bolts and washers. 14" chrome air cleaner, chrome dipstick, chrome oil filler cap and master cylinder cap (non-disc brakes cars only) and chrome radiator cap. 1967-68 cars had solid-letter Cobra valve covers with the balance of components same as above, except without master cylinder cap. 1967-68 cars may also have chrome plated stock valve covers. Shelby chrome dress-up kit bolts are chrome or natural. 289 HiPo dress up kits came standard from the factory
with only chrome valve covers, oil filter cap and chrome air cleaner. HiPo cars may also have full dress-up kit as described above. No dress-up kits allowed from 1969 on.

hood hinges left a natural color or phosphate and oil, and the firewall must have undercoating at the proper places. Steering column must match the color of the interior. Proper decals required: service specification decal 1964 ½-71; air cleaner service instruction decal 1964 ½-68; battery test decal 1964 ½-up; cubic air cleaner decal 1964 ½-75;Autolite replacement parts 1968-up; emission tune-up decal 1968-up.

Fog lights (if applicable) must be of original Ford accessory type, mounted in the original manner, and have legal clear or yellow bulbs. Bulbs must match. Parking lights, taillights, back-up lights, running lights (if applicable)and license plate light must be of original Ford design for year of car. (Back-up light rubber gasket- 1967-up gray) Headlamp doors must be of proper style and finish for year of car. Halogen headlights okay on Concours Driven only.

7. TRUNK COMPARTMENT

A. Mat and Cardboard: Must be of proper style and type material as original for the year of car and mounted in the original for the year of car and mounted in the original location as follows: 1964 ½ speckled, stitched mat with burtex backing or gray plaid molded rubber; 1965 gray plaid with burtex backing or molded rubber; 1966 gray plaid, molded type; 1967 gray plaid stitched with burtex backing; 1968-70 gray spatter design with burtex backing or gray felt; 1971-73 solid gray cloth in Grande model only and optional in coupes and convertibles; all other 1971-73 models have dark gray spatter paint and no mat. Trunk mat underlay: 1964 ½ convertibles only and was optional. 1967-70 cars with mats have trunk mat overlay.

B. Spare Tire: Spare tire and wheel must be of proper type for year and model of car. Cars equipped with the optional wheels may have either the optional wheel or standard wheel as spare. Wheels must be of correct finish and mounted in the original location with clamping parts of the original style and finish. Styled steel wheels require special hold-down plates with or without tabs. Tabs must be mounted down inside wheel opening, not in the up position. Space-saver wheel optional from 1968-up and requires the inflator bottle. Felt mat between jack and tire optional in 1968, required in 1969-70 for space saver and styled steel wheels only.

9. UNDERCARRIAGE, SUSPENSION AND EXHAUST

A. Undercoating Concours Trailered and Thoroughbred classes ONLY cannot be undercoated.

Concours Driven Classes: If undercoated, everything must be covered with the exception of the drive shaft, transmission, rear-end housiangsexhaust pipes and muffler and springs and plates. Gas tank may be fully undercoated or may have undercoat overspray around the leading (front) edge and two sides, but must show some evidence of overspray.

On non-undercoated cars, undercarriage must be primered either red oxide, dark gray or black, Depending on model, sound deadener may be spray in tunnel feather towards the rockers. Rear wheel housing my be blacked out with sound deadener. (Body color overspray is acceptable over sound deadener.) Front fender, topside and splash guards may be blacked out with
sound deadener. Inner fenders, wheel-side COULD show a blending of either body color, primer or engine compartment color with sound deadener overspray. Lower pinch welds may be black or body color (if dark color.) Convertible plate is either black or natural. (Must be undercoated if car is undercoated).

B. Gas Tank: Must be of original type and finish or may be undercoated as above. 1964 ½-68 must have drain plug; 1969 optional drain plug; 1970-73 deleted drain plug.

C. Rigid Fuel and Brake Lines: Must be of steel and of the proper finish (natural) and routed in the original locations. Flexible brake line must be black rubber and have original Factory markings. Differential vent must be black and mounted in proper location.

D. Suspension: The following suspension parts are to be natural: strut rods, idler arms, pitman, steering box, tie rods, drag links, strut washers, sway bar hardware, power steering control valve, steering cylinder, spring seats and spindles, rear leaf springs, shock plates and U-bolts.

Coil springs are black or natural. Upper and lower control arms may be all natural or may be black with ball joint ends natural. Sway bar is black.

Shock absorbers are as follows: 1964 ½-71 black FoMoCo or Autolite; 1972-73 black Motorcraft; 1974-up blue Motorcraft. For Shelby shock absorbers, see Shelby Supplement.

E. Drivetrain: Drive shaft and universal joints must be of the original type (no grease fittings) and finish (natural) and mounted properly. Transmission cross brace support may be black or natural. Cover of six-cylinder housing (non-removable cover) will be all black. Third member with removable cover: All 8 cylinder red primer. All 6 cylinder red or black center with black axle tubes. All attaching bolts must be correct finish.

F. Exhaust System: Must be made of proper material and correctly mounted with proper attaching hardware. No stainless steel permitted (except on Street Driven Concours cars - See Special Exception Section). Muffler may be plain with no name as long as it is proper style and length. 1964 ½-67 cars must have resonator. 1968 cars with single exhaust did not have
resonator. 1967 six-cylinder cars with automatic have resonator. No resonators on six-cylinder cars except as noted. MCA approved aluminized systems are acceptable.

G. All Bushings, Grommets, Brake Adjusting Access Hole Plugs, Attaching Nuts, Bolts, Washers, etc: Must be the original style and finish.

H. Transmission Exterior surface of transmission must be natural except for export models. T-5 manual transmissions were red oxide or green; T-5 automatics were natural aluminum. Inspection plates will be black, blue or natural according to application. Filler tubes are as follows: 1964 ½-70 are black; 1968-69 428 cu. in. are yellow; 1970 428 CJ are pink; 1971-73
are black or natural.

10. Wheels, Tires, Hubcaps: Wheels: Must be proper size and style correct for the year and make of car.
Wheels are painted black with the exception of cars with small hubcaps, which are painted body color. Styled steel wheels must be correct for year of car and have proper color center cap inserts. No styled steel wheels on 1964 ½ models. 1966 models through December 1st, 1965, may carry 1965 styled steel wheels as original equipment (carry-over item). Hubcaps must be proper style for the year of car.

Tires: Must be proper size and style for year and make of car. See Tire Specification Chart. Radials were available as on option from 1966-up, correct size only. No P-Metric radials allowed, except in Street Driven Concours Class. (See Special Exception Section).

DRIVEN CONCOURS EXCEPTIONS

1. Any vehicle trailered or towed at any time will be disqualified from all National Shows for one year. All vehicles must be driven to the show from the owner's home of record, regardless of distance. Burden of proof to be the owners responsibility.

2. Exhaust System:
a) May be stainless steel, aluminumized or natural metal exhaust paint without penalty.

3. Tires (Pro-Rated Points):
a) Original size reproductions (no brand name). 3 Full Points Allowed
b) Mandatory 2 point deduction for comparable size radials or belted tires. All five tires must be same size and manufacturer. 2 Points Deducted

4. Shock Absorbers (as stated in rules):
a) Two point mandatory deductions for Motorcraft Shocks (must be black). 2 Points Deducted
b) Four point mandatory deduction for non-Ford brand shocks. 4 Points Deducted

5. Batteries (as stated in rules):
a) Autolite. Ful 6 Points Allowed
b) Motorcraft - mandatory three point deduction. 3 Points Deducted
b) All other brands - mandatory six point deduction. 6 Points Deducted

6. Headlamps:
a) Halogen Headlamps okay. No Points Deducted
