The Rear End of the 1968 Shelby Cobra (Mustangs)

68 tail end

The rear end of the 1968 was totally different from the other years as well as the stock Mustang. First there is a tail spoiler on the trunk lid, the word SHELBY is across the back of the spoiler. Below that are the '65 Thunderbird tail lights mounted in a special fiberglass panel. The under the bumper rear panel is stock GT Mustang. The two exhaust tips are single outlet tube in a chrome tube.
So what does the rear end of the other  Shelby Cobras (Mustangs) look like?
Here is another picture of the '68 Shelby Cobra owned by Dennis Begley. This shows the flip down gas cap with the SHELBY COBRA and the coiled snake. The GT 500 KR said COBRA JET. Note the tail lights on either side. The Shelby Cobra frames were all chrome. However, the original Thunderbird frames were outlined in flat black. When I replaced the frames on this Shelby, I didn't know there were two versions and just asked for the Shelby ones in the book. They shipped me the ones with the black frame not the all chrome frame, the only frame they carried. Pays to investigate and ask questions..

Here is another image of the rear of a 68. Click on the picture for a much larger look at the chrome tail light frames. This is Dan Post's GT 350.
