Ron Crable 1966 Shelby GT 350

Author: Ron  (more...)

We have had our 1966 Shelby GT350 now for about five years, it's
chassis number 6S952 and currently has 81K original miles, this
vehicle is listed in the Shelby American World Registry. We have full
documentation on the vehicle back to the bill of sale from Shelby
American to Hayward Ford in Hayward (San Francisco ) California in
1966. We even have the original California Black Plate and original
registrations back to the original owner. The Shelby American invoice
is dated 2/28/66 and lists the base car at 3514.00, options included
the ten spoke alloy wheels ,strip kit and rear seat. The vehicle is
equipped with an original ,and still working AM radio that must have
been dealer installed. To my knowledge the vehicle was raced
extensively in California car club events and autocrosses up until
the early 70's when it went to an owner that stored it for approx. 10
years, its next owner then had it restored in the early 80's at Utah
Mustang. I purchased the vehicle from this owner who drove the
vehicle infrequently. We drive the car every chance we get, this is
not a garage queen but it is a very high condition number two car
with many trophies and awards to it's credit. Current modifications
include the use of American Racing Torque Thrust Wheels although the
orignal ten spoke alloys are in my possesion as are all the original
parts that have been replaced or upgraded. Rear end gears are now
3.55 instead of the factory 3.89 for a little bit better cruising
experience. A wood spoke Cobra steering wheel is now used in place of
the original Mustang wheel. This car is part of the family now and I
would like to take a minute to thank Pete Sr and Jr at Orlando
Mustang in Central Florida for maintaining the car and being a
constant source of reliable information and advice throughout our
ownership. We welcome contacts from any other Shelby or Mustang
enthusiasts, especially those in North Central North Carolina. We are
members of the SAAC and will be attending the 2004 convention in
Detroit. Ron & Margie Crable, Summerfield NC, (Greensboro)
