Finding Gwenevre!!

Author: Fish  (more...)

I was shaking as he prepared to open the roll door at the Public
Storage. I hadn't experienced such excitement and anticipation
since, well, I don't know if I ever have. I had fallen into my dream
muscle car finally and I was about to lay eyes on her for the first
time. She'd been in storage for 9 years, driven about 1000 miles.
She was Red, and man was it a sight when that door rolled up. I was
speechless and do remember muturing something to the effect of "I'll
take it" however.

I am approaching 40 and have spent my life toiling with
crotchrockets, Harleys and Porsches, never a muscle car. My best
friend in high school between practices for baseball and football and
off seasons worked for a local drag racer who owned a machine shop.
Kirk bought a 67 Mustang GTA coupe S-code 390 when we were 16. Over
the next 2 years the motor in that car was recranked, ported,
polished, flowed, popped up, cammed, there was nothing spared. The
engine was sick!!! Release gates to uncork the headers on the door
panels it, was scary. All I remember is pulling the built C-6 into
second with a 3:00 rear end at 90 miles an hour and smoking the
tires. Muscle cars were in my blood. But, parents who were German
Immigrants with no belief that a kid should own a car like that would deter the passion and qwest for Muscle.

As the years went own and opportunities arose, my first true
love, Porsche 911's became an acceptable substitution. Having been
born on 9-11-64 I was destined to drive that car. My first Porsche
was a 70 911T in 1991, then a 74 Carrera RS, and in 2003,"My 1985 930 Turbo Slant Nose Cabriolet does 185, I haven't lost my license and I still drive, life's been good to me so far." Having grown up in Germany I remember the first Gulf Blue 74 Carrera RS with "ducktail" I'd seen, true love. We would visit my "Oma" in Weilhemdorf suburb of Stuttgart, minutes from Zuffenhausen the home of Porsche. Mix in plenty of dirt and street bikes and one badass 90 Harley Fatboy and you have a pent up muscle car freak.

I'm rambling I'm sorry. Here's the facts.

Gwenevre is a 1968 Shelby Cobra GT-500, #00663, all original
repainted original Red, saddle interior, 4-spd, no air and she's all
mine. Bought in February of 2004. Only unoriginal things I have
found are 2 additional Stewart Warner gauges in center console, vacuum and fuel?? Also, somebody put a hurst shifter in it, I am looking for an orignal shifter now. Well thanks for reading and we'll cya on the streets of Colorado. Beware of the mean red snake "Gwenevre"..
